Sola Abegunde Declares: “Senator Sharafadeen Alli Is the Only APC Governorship Candidate in Oyo State”

As political activities continue to gather momentum ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State, prominent political figure Sola Abegunde has stirred conversations within the All Progressives Congress (APC) by declaring that Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli remains the party's only governorship candidate in the state.

According to Abegunde, Senator Alli's emergence as the APC flag bearer has effectively settled the contest within the party, urging members and supporters to channel their energies toward strengthening the APC ahead of the general election rather than dwelling on internal divisions.

> “Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli is the only APC governorship candidate in Oyo State,” Abegunde stated, emphasizing the need for unity and collective commitment among party faithful.

Senator Alli, who currently represents Oyo South Senatorial District in the National Assembly, officially declared his intention to contest the governorship under the APC before emerging as the party's candidate following the party's primary process. Since then, he has intensified consultations with stakeholders and party leaders across Oyo State as preparations for the 2027 governorship election continue.

The lawmaker, a seasoned lawyer and former Secretary to the Oyo State Government, has consistently maintained that his ambition is driven by a desire to reposition Oyo State through purposeful leadership, economic development, improved infrastructure, and inclusive governance. His political career spans decades, having served in several strategic public offices before winning election to the Senate in 2023.

Abegunde's declaration comes at a period when discussions surrounding the APC's strategy for reclaiming power in Oyo State have remained a dominant issue in the state's political landscape. His remarks are expected to reinforce calls for unity among party members, particularly after the completion of the party's internal nomination process.

Following his emergence, Senator Alli has repeatedly appealed to former aspirants, party leaders and supporters to put aside differences and work together in building a formidable APC capable of challenging the ruling People's Democratic Party (PDP) in the next governorship election. He has expressed confidence that reconciliation efforts within the party will strengthen its chances at the polls.

However, despite endorsements and public declarations from some supporters, the Oyo State APC leadership has previously clarified that claims suggesting any endorsement by the Presidency or the party's national leadership before the party's primary were unfounded, stressing that the party's processes should be respected.

Political observers believe the months ahead will witness increased consultations, grassroots mobilization and strategic alliances as parties position themselves for what is expected to be a fiercely contested 2027 governorship election in Oyo State.

With Governor Seyi Makinde constitutionally barred from seeking another term after completing his second tenure, attention has increasingly shifted to the candidates expected to shape the next political chapter of the Pacesetter State. Senator Sharafadeen Alli's emergence as the APC standard-bearer has therefore become one of the defining developments in Oyo's evolving political landscape.
