Oriyomi Hamzat Unveils 2027 Campaign Media Team Amid Accord Ticket Dispute
Oriyomi Hamzat, who emerged from one faction of the Accord Party’s nomination process as its proposed 2027 governorship candidate in Oyo State, has unveiled a new campaign media team as his political movement intensifies preparations for the February 6, 2027 governorship election.
Hamzat personally approved, signed and presented appointment letters to members of the campaign media structure on Friday in Ibadan, bringing together professionals with backgrounds in journalism, broadcasting, strategic communications, public relations, political research, digital media, logistics and creative production.
At the centre of the new structure is Samuel Ibikunle, popularly known as ArugboBoisi, a seasoned broadcast journalist and communicator with management experience across broadcast stations in the South-West. He has been appointed Official Spokesperson for the campaign.
The strategic communications directorate will be headed by Olabode Rufai Anisoloja, a communications consultant and strategic thinker, who takes responsibility as Director of Strategic Communications & Public Engagement.
Tobiloba Ogunsina, JP, popularly known as Wokilumo, a political strategist and public relations practitioner, has been appointed Director of Publicity & Campaign Promotions, while Badru Idris, a new-media professional, will lead the campaign's digital communications as Director of New Media.
The media logistics and operational side of the campaign will be handled by Gbenga Olayiwola, popularly known as Oyato, an experienced journalist with decades of professional experience. He has been appointed Director of Media Logistics & Operations.
Meanwhile, Edward Taiwo, a political affairs commentator and media professional, takes charge as Director of Research & Political Communications.
In the creative communications department, Okikiola Oluwadamilare, a creative professional, has been appointed Director of Content & Creative Services.
The appointments effectively create a coordinated campaign communications framework covering publicity, broadcasting, digital media, political research, strategic communication, media intelligence, logistics and creative content.
Hamzat has directed the newly constituted team to commence operations immediately as the Oriyomi Hamzat Campaign (OCC) expands its media engagement, public communication and political activities ahead of the 2027 Oyo governorship election.
Hamzat's emergence on the Accord platform dates back to May, when party officials announced him as the winner of a governorship primary. Premium Times reported at the time that Accord's National Deputy Secretary, Abdulraman Muhammed, described Hamzat as the authentic candidate following the party's primary process.
However, the political development has since been complicated by an internal dispute within Accord. A competing faction led by Chris Imumolen has rejected both Hamzat and Olakunle Busari as legitimate Oyo governorship candidates, arguing that neither emerged through a valid nomination process. The faction has also called for a fresh nomination process.
The matter is now before the Federal High Court, with the dispute involving the party's leadership structure and the process through which its Oyo governorship candidate was selected. Recent reports indicate that proceedings have been adjourned to September 30, 2026.
This development also explains an important point concerning the INEC list. INEC currently lists Accord among Nigeria's recognised political parties, but the Commission's general Accord profile does not by itself display Hamzat as the party's Oyo governorship candidate.
INEC's 2027 timetable provides that the final list of nominated governorship and State House of Assembly candidates is scheduled for publication on October 10, 2026. The governorship election itself is scheduled for February 6, 2027.
Consequently, while Hamzat's campaign organisation is already taking shape and his political activities are continuing, the unresolved Accord nomination dispute remains a significant legal and political issue surrounding the party's eventual Oyo governorship ticket.
The unfolding situation means that the coming weeks could be crucial for determining which Accord candidate and party structure will ultimately be recognised for the 2027 Oyo governorship contest.
