City Boy Movement Expels Two Oyo Leaders Over Alleged Anti-Party Activities as 2027 Battle Intensifies

The Oyo State chapter of the City Boy Movement has expelled two of its members, Abiola Oyeyemi Olubadan and Akeem Adetoyese Ishola, over alleged anti-party activities, in a development that highlights the growing political realignment and internal pressure surrounding the 2027 elections.

Abiola Oyeyemi, who previously served as Deputy Secretary of the movement, and Akeem Adetoyese, formerly its Director of Community Relations, were reportedly sanctioned following an emergency meeting of the State Executive Committee held on Friday, October 16, 2026, at the instance of the State Director.

In a statement signed by the movement’s Director of Information, Inaolaji Akinloye Adisa, FCIFC, the organisation said the decision followed deliberations by members of the State Executive Committee over what it described as activities inconsistent with the movement’s political position.

According to the statement, the two former officials, who had been associated with the All Progressives Congress (APC), were accused of discreetly supporting candidates of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), an allegation that formed part of the basis for their expulsion.

The movement said the action was intended to reinforce organisational discipline, accountability and compliance with its established political direction.

City Boy Reaffirms Support for APC

The development comes at a politically sensitive period in Oyo State, where preparations for the 2027 general elections are already intensifying.

The City Boy Movement has repeatedly positioned itself as a grassroots mobilisation structure supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC. Its national platform describes the organisation as a youth-driven network established to promote the Renewed Hope Agenda and mobilise support for the President and APC across Nigeria.

In Oyo, the movement has also publicly demonstrated its alignment with the APC's electoral machinery. Earlier in 2026, its state leadership declared an ambition to mobilise significant grassroots support for Tinubu's re-election while working with APC structures across the state.

More recently, the movement has intensified its grassroots activities across Oyo's 33 local government areas as the 2027 political contest draws closer.

The City Boy Movement therefore reiterated that its members are expected to support APC candidates across Oyo State, stressing party unity, grassroots mobilisation and collective responsibility.

It urged members to remain loyal to the movement's adopted political direction and respect its rules, leadership decisions and resolutions.

More Members Under Review

The movement also disclosed that concerns had been raised over other suspected cases of anti-party activities involving some members.

It said those matters remain under review and that any further disciplinary action would depend on the outcome of relevant inquiries and established procedures.

The latest development comes against the backdrop of increasing political competition between the APC and APM in Oyo State.

The APM has emerged as a significant political platform ahead of 2027, with several reports documenting defections from the APC to the party. In September, an APC chieftain and former Oluyole Local Government secretary, Adedokun Adegboyega, was reported to have defected to the APM alongside political associates.

Another reported mass defection from the APC to the APM took place in Ibadan in September, further underscoring the fluidity of Oyo State's political landscape ahead of the elections.

The political contest has also generated misinformation and competing narratives. For instance, a September fact-check found claims that APC governorship candidate Senator Sharafadeen Alli had endorsed the APM to be misleading, clarifying that a viral reference to “APM” occurred at an event connected to the Alao-Akala Transformation Movement (ATM), rather than representing an endorsement of the Allied Peoples Movement.

Against this backdrop, the City Boy Movement's latest disciplinary action signals the importance its leadership places on political alignment as the 2027 contest approaches.

The movement concluded by calling on its members and stakeholders to uphold unity, discipline, peaceful political participation and grassroots engagement while working towards the success of APC candidates across Oyo State.

The allegations against the expelled members remain allegations attributed to the movement. Any response or clarification from the affected individuals would provide an opportunity for their position to be independently reported alongside the organisation's account.
