Israel Signals Readiness for Fresh Iran Strikes — Could Tehran Face Another Major Military Escalation?

Israel appears to be preparing for the possibility of another round of military action against Iran, with Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz warning that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) is capable of conducting an independent operation against Iranian targets, even without direct U.S. participation.

The warning adds another dangerous dimension to an already volatile confrontation involving Israel, Iran and the United States.

According to *Israel Hayom*, Katz said the IDF had identified targets inside Iran and was prepared for what he described as a “blue-and-white” operation — referring to an Israeli operation conducted independently. He also warned that if Iran launches missiles at Israeli territory, Israel would respond with what he described as overwhelming force.

Katz's comments are significant because they suggest that Israel does not necessarily regard American participation as a prerequisite for military action against Tehran. Israeli officials have repeatedly indicated that the country is prepared to act independently when it believes its national security is at stake.

Indeed, Israeli military operations against Iran have previously included attacks conducted without direct American participation, although coordination and support between the two countries have remained an important element of the broader military campaign. citeturn0search4turn0search6

Iran Still Keeping Diplomacy Open

Despite the increasingly aggressive military rhetoric, Tehran has not completely abandoned diplomacy.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has maintained that Iran is prepared to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity while remaining open to diplomatic solutions that protect what Tehran describes as the rights of the Iranian people.

Recent diplomatic efforts involving Qatar and other intermediaries have attempted to reduce tensions between Washington and Tehran. Iran has also presented proposals aimed at ending hostilities and restoring normal navigation through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz. However, significant disagreements remain between Tehran and Washington.

That leaves the region facing a dangerous contradiction: diplomacy is still taking place, but military preparations are continuing at the same time.

What Happens If Israel Strikes Tehran Again?

The biggest question is how Iran would respond if Israel launches a fresh independent air campaign against Tehran.

There is no way to predict with certainty what Iran's leadership would ultimately decide. However, recent reporting suggests that Tehran has been preparing for a stronger response to any renewed major attack.

Reuters reported on October 1 that Iranian military commanders were considering broader retaliation in the event of renewed large-scale attacks. According to the report, Iranian planning has included potential responses against U.S.-linked interests, countries supporting American military operations and possibly targets beyond the Middle East. Iranian-aligned groups in Lebanon, Yemen and Iraq were also reportedly being prepared for possible coordinated action.

If Israel were to conduct another major air campaign, Iran could therefore face a difficult strategic choice.

It could attempt to limit its response to missile and drone attacks against Israel in order to avoid triggering an even larger regional war. Alternatively, Tehran could seek to raise the cost of an Israeli operation by expanding its response across the region through direct or indirect means.

The Strait of Hormuz could also become a major pressure point. The waterway is critical to global energy supplies, and disruptions there have already contributed to volatility in oil markets. citeturn1news8turn0news28

Iran's Future Is Now a Regional Question

The question, therefore, is not simply whether Israel can launch another operation against Iran. It is what happens after the first Israeli missiles are fired

Israel appears determined to preserve its ability to strike what it considers Iranian threats. Iran, meanwhile, is demonstrating that it wants diplomacy where possible but intends to retain the ability to respond militarily.

That combination makes the current situation exceptionally dangerous.

If Israel launches an independent strike on Tehran, Iran is unlikely to simply absorb the attack without a response. The real uncertainty is **the scale, timing and geographical reach of that response** — and whether Washington, Gulf states and Iran-aligned armed groups would subsequently become directly or indirectly involved.

For now, diplomacy remains alive, but so does the possibility of another military escalation.

And in the Middle East, the distance between a diplomatic breakdown and another war can be measured in minutes.
