EFCC Intensifies Crackdown on CBEX Amid Ponzi Scheme Allegations: Pledges Swift Recovery of Investors’ Funds

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has initiated a comprehensive investigation into CBEX, a digital asset trading platform, following a surge of investor complaints and widespread concerns over its operational legitimacy. Users have reported significant delays in fund withdrawals, prompting fears that CBEX may be operating as a Ponzi scheme. Social media platforms have been abuzz with testimonies from individuals who have experienced difficulties accessing their investments, raising red flags about the platform's credibility.

In response to these developments, the EFCC has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting investors and maintaining the integrity of Nigeria's financial ecosystem. The Commission has vowed to employ all necessary legal measures to recover funds from CBEX and ensure that affected investors are duly compensated. This move aligns with the EFCC's broader mandate to combat financial crimes and safeguard the interests of the investing public.

This action is part of a larger initiative by the EFCC to clamp down on fraudulent investment schemes. Recently, the Commission issued a public alert identifying 58 illegal Ponzi scheme operators defrauding Nigerians under the guise of investment opportunities. The EFCC has emphasized its vigilance and proactive monitoring of entities within the nation's economic space to prevent opportunistic and predatory practices.

Under the leadership of Executive Chairman Ola Olukoyede, the EFCC has intensified efforts to trace and recover illicit assets. Olukoyede has highlighted the importance of asset recovery in the fight against economic and financial crimes, stating that depriving corrupt individuals of the proceeds of their crimes is crucial to weakening their influence.

The EFCC urges the public to exercise caution when engaging with investment platforms and to report any suspicious activities. Investors affected by CBEX's operations are encouraged to come forward with relevant information to assist the ongoing investigation.
