As Nigeria approaches the 2027 general elections, momentum is building within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde to emerge as the party's presidential candidate. The Brave New Vision Support Group, led by PDP chieftain Dr. Adetokunbo Pearse, has called on South-West PDP members to unite in support of Makinde's candidacy, citing his exemplary leadership and the need for regional representation.
Dr. Pearse emphasized that the PDP does not restrict presidential candidacy by region, and with the national chairman's position likely remaining in the North, the presidency should be zoned to the South. "From all indications, the national chairman’s position will continue in the North and the presidential ticket will go to the South," Pearse stated.
Governor Makinde's administration in Oyo State has been lauded for significant achievements in education, healthcare, infrastructure, and economic development. His leadership style, characterized by inclusivity and pragmatism, has garnered national attention, positioning him as a formidable contender for the presidency.
In response to the growing support, Makinde has acknowledged his capacity to lead but has urged party members to focus on unity and rebuilding the PDP. "We must fix our party; we must have a platform for you to even aspire to be anything," Makinde remarked.
As the PDP navigates internal dynamics and strategizes for the upcoming elections, the call for Governor Makinde's candidacy reflects a broader desire for renewed leadership and regional balance in Nigeria's political landscape.
