Makinde Describes PDP as Nigeria’s Most Enduring Party, Urges Unity Amid Defections

Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, has described the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) as the political party with the strongest institutional foundation in Nigeria. He urged party members not to be unsettled by recent defections, assuring that the PDP remains resilient and focused.
Governor Makinde made these remarks during the inauguration of the newly elected PDP South West Executive, held at the Hon. Soji Adagunodo PDP House, Old Ife Road, Ibadan. He emphasized the party’s unity and stability, noting that the departure of a few individuals cannot diminish the PDP's enduring structure.
Also speaking at the event, Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, called on the new executive members to prioritize peace-building and reconciliation across state chapters. He urged the leadership to reach out to aggrieved members, emphasizing the importance of fostering a cohesive and united front ahead of future elections. Governor Adeleke also reaffirmed his and Governor Makinde’s continued commitment to the progress of the PDP in the South West zone.
In his inaugural address, the newly elected PDP South West Chairman, Hon. Kamorudeen Ajisafe, called on members to work with a shared vision and determination to reclaim PDP leadership in states currently governed by other parties. Former Ogun State governorship candidate, Chief Ladi Adebutu, also addressed attendees, expressing gratitude to the governors and stakeholders for their support and voicing optimism about the party’s future. The new executive members were elected on April 16 at Ogunlesi Hall, Ibadan.
