The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has announced plans to resume crude oil drilling operations in the Kolmani field, located at the boundary of Bauchi and Gombe states, by June 2025. This initiative is part of the company's broader strategy to enhance domestic energy production and infrastructure development.
In a recent interview with BBC Hausa, NNPC's Group Chief Executive Officer, Bayo Ojulari, emphasized the significance of the Kolmani project and the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) gas pipeline in bolstering Nigeria's energy security and economic growth. Ojulari stated, "NNPC will continue oil drilling in the Kolmani field and will continue the work on the AKK gas pipeline from Ajaokuta to Kaduna to Kano. The companies working on the projects will continue, and new ones are also welcome."
Regarding the company's relationship with Dangote Refinery, NNPC has clarified that discussions are ongoing to renew the naira-for-crude oil supply agreement, which is set to expire at the end of March 2025. The initial six-month contract, initiated in October 2024, facilitated the supply of over 48 million barrels of crude oil to the 650,000-barrel-per-day refinery. NNPC has reiterated its commitment to supporting local refining initiatives and ensuring the stability of domestic fuel supply.
NNPC also addressed and refuted speculations about any discord with Dangote Refinery, highlighting its 7.2% equity stake in the project as evidence of its vested interest in the refinery's success. The company emphasized that it has no reason to undermine a venture in which it has made significant investments.
These developments underscore NNPC's dedication to advancing Nigeria's energy infrastructure and fostering collaborative partnerships within the sector.
