Manhattan, NY – May 6, 2025
Jury selection commenced today in the highly anticipated federal trial of Sean "Diddy" Combs, who faces multiple charges including sex trafficking, racketeering conspiracy, and transportation for prostitution. The proceedings are taking place in the Southern District of New York under the supervision of U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian.
The indictment against Combs alleges that, over a span of two decades (2004–2024), he orchestrated a criminal enterprise that exploited his music and business ventures to lure and coerce individuals into participating in illicit activities. Central to the prosecution's case are claims that Combs organized events termed "Freak Offs," described as elaborate, drug-fueled sex parties involving coerced participation and recorded performances.
During the jury selection process, approximately 600 potential jurors are being vetted, with particular attention to their familiarity with a list of nearly 200 celebrities, including Kanye West, Michael B. Jordan, and Kid Cudi. This extensive list is pertinent due to the potential involvement of these figures as witnesses or in related contexts [2] .
Notably, singer Cassie Ventura, Combs' former girlfriend, is expected to testify. A widely circulated video purportedly showing Combs assaulting Ventura has been a focal point in pre-trial discussions. The defense, led by attorney Marc Agnifilo, maintains that all interactions were consensual and challenges the characterization of the events as criminal [3] .
Combs, who has been in federal custody since his arrest in September 2024, appeared in court wearing civilian attire, a departure from his previous jail-issued clothing. The trial is projected to last approximately eight weeks, with opening statements scheduled to begin on May 12.
If convicted on all counts, Combs faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years, with the possibility of life imprisonment. The case continues to draw significant media attention, given Combs' prominence in the music industry and the serious nature of the allegations.
