In preparation for the upcoming Sallah celebration, the Oyo State Government has launched a special subsidy and installment payment plan for the purchase of bags of rice and rams, aimed at supporting civil and public servants across the state. The initiative, which is part of a broader welfare relief package, is designed to ease the financial burden of festive preparations and ensure government workers can celebrate the season with dignity and comfort.
Sheikh Akehugbagold Taofeek, Chairman of the Agricultural Credit Cooperative in Oyo State and coordinator of the program, praised the government’s proactive approach. He revealed that over 2,500 civil and public servants have already benefited from the scheme. According to him, the process was structured to allow easy access, with a flexible installment payment option to accommodate varying income levels. He also noted that this is one of several planned programs, including poverty alleviation efforts and strategies to boost food security and availability across the state.
In addition to the Sallah relief, Sheikh Akehugbagold highlighted the resumption of the SAfER (Sustainable Actions for Economic Recovery) initiative next month. Under this program, the government had previously disbursed N1 billion in loans to small-scale farmers to enhance agricultural productivity. Beneficiaries of the current relief package expressed appreciation for the state government's continued support, noting that the affordable prices and payment flexibility have significantly improved their ability to celebrate the season.
