UK Issues Updated Travel Advisory: 23 Nigerian States Deemed High-Risk Due to Security Concerns

The United Kingdom's Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) has updated its travel advisory for Nigeria, cautioning British nationals against traveling to 23 states due to heightened security risks, including terrorism, kidnapping, and violent crime.

States Advised Against All Travel:

- *North East Nigeria:* Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, Gombe
- *North West Nigeria:* Kaduna, Katsina, Zamfara
- *South South Nigeria (Riverine Areas):* Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Cross River

States Advised Against All But Essential Travel:

- *North East Nigeria:* Bauchi
- *North West Nigeria:* Kano, Jigawa, Sokoto, within 20km of the border with Niger in Kebbi
- *North Central Nigeria:* Niger, Kogi, Plateau, Taraba
- *South East Nigeria:* Abia, Anambra, Imo
- *South South Nigeria (Non-Riverine Areas):* Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers

The FCDO emphasizes that "no travel can be guaranteed safe" and advises against all travel to the specified regions due to risks of terrorism, kidnapping, and violent crime.

Notably, no states in the South West region, predominantly inhabited by the Yoruba ethnic group, are included in the advisory. This exclusion may reflect the region's relative stability and lower incidence of security threats compared to other parts of the country.

Travelers are urged to remain vigilant, avoid large gatherings, and stay informed through local news and official channels. For detailed information, consult the [official UK government
