Oyo APC’s Loudest Political Signal May Be the Silence of Teslim Folarin and Florence Ajimobi

As political calculations ahead of the 2027 elections continue to reshape conversations within the Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, many observers have focused heavily on the silence of former governorship candidate and three-term Senator, Teslim Folarin.

However, beyond Folarin’s quiet disposition lies another silence that many political watchers believe deserves equal attention — that of Nigeria’s current Ambassador to Austria and former First Lady of Oyo State, Florence Ajimobi.

For months, political alignments, consultations, endorsements, and subtle power plays have continued within Oyo APC. Yet, despite the growing tension and permutations surrounding future political positions in the state, Florence Ajimobi has remained noticeably silent.

To many political analysts, that silence is not ordinary.

The late former governor of Oyo State, Abiola Ajimobi, built one of the strongest political structures the APC has ever witnessed in the state. Even after his passing in 2020, the Ajimobi political dynasty has remained influential across several blocs within Oyo politics.

Today, members of the family still occupy strategic political and social positions. One of the most talked-about developments is the reported interest of Kolapo Kola-Daisi, Ajimobi’s son-in-law, in the Oyo South Senatorial race. Interestingly, Wasiu Ajimobi, younger brother to the late governor, is also believed to be eyeing the same position.

Despite these politically sensitive developments involving close family interests, Florence Ajimobi has chosen to maintain complete silence publicly. No endorsements. No declarations. No obvious alignment.

That silence has now become a major discussion point among APC loyalists and political observers.

The same applies to Senator Teslim Folarin.

Folarin remains one of the most experienced politicians in Oyo State. A former Senate Leader and three-term Senator with deep grassroots networks, he still commands a loyal political structure across several local governments. Since the last governorship election, many expected the former APC governorship candidate to openly reposition himself within the evolving power dynamics of the party.

Instead, he has remained unusually quiet.

In politics, especially in a highly strategic environment like Oyo State, silence often speaks louder than public statements. Political insiders understand that influential figures rarely stay quiet without reason. Sometimes, silence means consultations are ongoing behind closed doors. Sometimes, it signals political caution. Other times, it reflects calculated observation before making a decisive move.

Within the APC, where multiple interests are currently competing for relevance ahead of future elections, the silence of both Florence Ajimobi and Teslim Folarin is increasingly generating speculation.

Could they be waiting for the right political timing?

Could new alliances be forming quietly behind the scenes?

Or are these respected political figures simply studying the unfolding landscape before making strategic decisions?

Those questions continue to dominate discussions among party stakeholders and political followers across Oyo State.

What makes the situation even more intriguing is the political weight both personalities still carry. Florence Ajimobi remains highly respected within elite political circles due to her late husband’s legacy and her diplomatic appointment by the Federal Government. Senator Folarin, on the other hand, remains one of the most recognizable political figures in the state with decades of experience and strong influence within party structures.

In many political settings, public noise often attracts attention, but seasoned politicians understand that strategic silence can sometimes be the most powerful move of all.

Oyo politics has repeatedly shown that major political decisions are rarely made on the surface. Meetings happen privately. Alliances are tested quietly. Calculations are perfected away from public cameras before eventual declarations are made.

That is why many observers now believe the silence coming from both camps should not be dismissed as political weakness or irrelevance.

Rather, it may be the calm before a major political realignment.

As political activities continue to intensify within the Oyo APC, one thing remains certain: in Oyo politics, silence is rarely empty.

Sometimes, silence is consultation.

Sometimes, silence is calculation.

And sometimes… silence is strategy.
