Sunday Igboho Returns to Nigeria, Urges Federal Government to Remove His Name from Wanted List

Yoruba Nation activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has returned to Nigeria from Germany and is appealing to the Federal Government to remove his name from its wanted list. Igboho made this plea during a visit to the Olugbon of Orile Igbon, Oba Francis Olusola Alao, in Oyo State.

In July 2021, Igboho fled Nigeria after the Department of State Services (DSS) raided his residence in Ibadan, Oyo State. He was later arrested with his wife in Cotonou, Benin Republic. Although he briefly returned to Nigeria in 2024 for his mother's burial, this marks his first extended stay since his departure.

During his visit to Oba Alao, Igboho expressed his desire for freedom and reintegration into Nigerian society. He lamented that being on the wanted list has hindered his ability to obtain a Nigerian passport and access his bank accounts. He emphasized that he is not a criminal and should not be treated as such.

Oba Alao, in response, described Igboho as a patriot whose activism contributed to the emergence of a Yoruba president. He pledged to recommend Igboho for a leadership role in the Southwest's security framework and to formally appeal to President Bola Tinubu for his pardon within 48 hours.

Igboho also called on the Federal Government to prioritize security in the Southwest region, urging the appointment of capable individuals to oversee safety. He expressed readiness to support such efforts if entrusted with the responsibility.

This development has sparked discussions on the treatment of separatist figures in Nigeria and the need for dialogue and reconciliation.
