Ibadan witnessed a rare convergence of grace, gratitude, influence, and excellence as a remarkable life was celebrated in grand style. On Thursday, January 29, 2026, the city literally stood still as dignitaries, celebrities, culture shapers, industry leaders, and well-wishers gathered to honour the life and legacy of the late Chief Superintendent of Police (Rtd) Effiong Etim Essang, in what has been widely described as one of the most exquisitely curated funeral ceremonies ever held in the ancient city.
At the very heart of this historic celebration was Dr. Favour Essang, Chief Executive Officer of Dexterity Plus (House of Dexterity)—a bespoke event setup, planning, and decoration powerhouse—whose visionary leadership transformed grief into gratitude and remembrance into royalty.

Inside the hall, every detail spoke volumes: harmonious colour palettes, bold yet graceful arc designs, world-class lighting, and an impeccably arranged seating layout that blended comfort with luxury.
Industry watchers and guests alike agreed on one thing: this was not just a funeral setup; it was a masterclass in event artistry. Dexterity Plus once again reaffirmed its reputation as a brand that does not merely decorate spaces but creates unforgettable experiences.

A LIFE WELL LIVED, A STORY WORTH TELLING
Born in 1942 in Urong Uko, Oron LGA, Akwa Ibom State, Chief Superintendent of Police (Rtd) Effiong Etim Essang exemplified discipline, service, and integrity.
His journey began with foundational education in Oron before he answered the call to national service through the Nigerian Police Force. In 1974, he transitioned into the State Security Service (SSS), where he served with distinction, including specialized professional training in the United Kingdom in 1981. He also served during the administration of President Shehu Shagari, contributing to national stability and security.
He retired honourably in 2008 in Lagos, leaving behind a career defined by excellence and quiet patriotism.
Beyond service, he was a devoted family man. Married to Blessed Effiong in 1972, their union was blessed with five children—two sons and three daughters—and ten grandchildren, all of whom continue to embody the values he lived by.
TRIBUTES THAT MOVED HEARTS
The tributes delivered during the service were deeply emotional, authentic, and reflective of a man who lived with purpose.
Mrs. Faith Dafwat (Daughter) described him as “the heart of our family” and a teacher of discipline and unity.
Mr. Victor Essang (Son) hailed him as “My Dad, My Hero”, a man who lived the values he taught.
Dr. Favour Essang, in a moving tribute, referred to him as “my first teacher”, describing his life as a gift and his guidance as a lasting blessing.
Mrs. David Udoh and Mrs. Gift Adamu echoed similar sentiments of protection, encouragement, love, and exemplary devotion.
Each tribute reinforced one truth: this was a life that mattered, and a legacy that will endure.
EXCELLENCE POWERED BY COLLABORATION
The success of the ceremony was further strengthened by the outstanding contributions of numerous professional vendors who delivered with precision, passion, and excellence—from catering and cocktails to security, music, and guest experience. Their collective effort ensured seamless coordination and comfort for thousands of guests in attendance.
A FINAL WORD: GRATITUDE, GREATNESS, AND LEGACY
This was more than a funeral. It was a celebration of service, family, excellence, and vision. It was a moment of gratitude for a life well lived and a powerful affirmation of greatness—both in the legacy of Chief Superintendent of Police (Rtd) Effiong Etim Essang and in the extraordinary execution led by Dr. Favour Essang and Dexterity Plus.
Ibadan will remember this day. Not just for the crowd. Not just for the glamour. But for the standard it set.
A legacy was honoured.
Excellence was affirmed.
And gratitude filled the air.
