APC Bursts 2027 Political Bubble: ‘Only Tinubu Is Confirmed, Others Are Just Making Noise.'

2027 Elections: APC Clarifies Only Tinubu Has Been Officially Confirmed as Candidate

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has clarified that, apart from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, no aspirant seeking elective office under the party has been officially confirmed as a candidate for the 2027 general elections.

In a statement released in Abuja, the party explained that the process leading to the emergence of candidates for governorship, senatorial, House of Representatives, and state House of Assembly positions is still ongoing and remains subject to the approval and directives of the APC National Working Committee (NWC).

According to the party, only President Tinubu has so far received a Certificate of Return as the APC’s confirmed presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 polls. The clarification comes amid growing political speculation, endorsements, and claims by several aspirants and support groups across different states regarding automatic tickets and candidate confirmations within the party.

The APC stressed that no official Certificates of Return have been issued to any governorship aspirant, senatorial hopeful, House of Representatives aspirant, or state assembly contender at this stage of the political process. The party warned members and supporters against spreading misinformation capable of creating confusion or tension within the party structure.

Party officials noted that the APC remains committed to due process and internal democratic procedures in determining its candidates for all elective positions. The statement emphasized that the National Working Committee remains the constitutionally recognized organ empowered to supervise and approve nomination processes and issue directives regarding primaries and candidate confirmations.

Political observers believe the clarification may be connected to the increasing wave of endorsements and political maneuvering already taking shape ahead of the 2027 general elections. Across several states, aspirants and loyalists have reportedly intensified consultations, mobilization campaigns, and strategic alignments as political permutations continue to build within both the APC and opposition parties.

The ruling party further appealed to its members nationwide to remain calm, patient, and law-abiding while awaiting official communication from the NWC concerning the nomination and selection process for other elective offices.

Analysts say the APC’s latest statement is aimed at preventing internal disputes and possible factional crises that could arise from premature declarations of candidacy or claims of automatic tickets. In previous election cycles, disagreements over candidate selection processes have contributed to legal battles and internal party tensions in several political parties across Nigeria.

The APC leadership reiterated that all decisions regarding candidate emergence will follow established party guidelines, constitutional provisions, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) regulations governing political party primaries and nominations.

President Bola Tinubu, who secured victory in the 2023 presidential election under the APC platform, continues to enjoy strong backing from several party stakeholders and support groups pushing for his re-election bid in 2027. His confirmation as the party’s presidential candidate has further fueled conversations within the political space about the APC’s early preparations for the next general election cycle.

Meanwhile, political activities across Nigeria are gradually gathering momentum despite the elections still being years away. Major political actors within the APC, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party, and other political platforms are already positioning themselves for strategic relevance ahead of 2027.

The APC, however, insists that members should disregard unofficial announcements or claims suggesting that aspirants for other offices have already been confirmed as party candidates. The party maintained that only the National Working Committee possesses the authority to communicate final decisions regarding nominations and candidate recognition.

As the political atmosphere continues to heat up nationwide, party faithful and stakeholders are expected to closely monitor future directives from the APC leadership concerning primaries, zoning arrangements, endorsements, and the broader roadmap leading to the 2027 elections.
