“Wike Promised Fire in Oyo” — Isaac Fayose Demands DSS Probe Amid Rising Political Tension

Political tensions in Oyo State have taken a dramatic turn following controversial remarks made by social commentator and businessman, Isaac Fayose, who has called on the Department of State Services (DSS) to question the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, over previous comments allegedly directed at Governor Seyi Makinde and the political climate in Oyo State.

Fayose’s comments emerged in reaction to recent security concerns and reported kidnapping incidents in Oyo State, which have sparked debates across political and social circles. In a viral statement circulating online, Isaac Fayose referenced an earlier political declaration allegedly made by Wike during the height of internal disagreements within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

According to Fayose, Wike had publicly declared that he would “put fire” in Oyo State politically, a statement that has now resurfaced amid the growing tension surrounding Governor Seyi Makinde’s rumored presidential ambition ahead of the 2027 political permutations.

“Wike said and I quote, ‘I will put fire in Governor Seyi Makinde’s Oyo State,’ and the same week Seyi Makinde was supposed to announce his presidential candidacy, this kidnapped situation happened. When will the DSS invite Wike?” Isaac Fayose questioned in the now-viral reaction.

The statement has generated heated conversations on social media, with supporters and critics offering varying interpretations. While some see Fayose’s comments as political exaggeration driven by existing PDP rivalries, others argue that public officials and influential politicians should be held accountable for statements capable of inflaming political tensions.

Adding further controversy to the matter, Fayose referenced a Yoruba proverb, “Aje ke lana, omo ku loni,” loosely translated as “The witch cried yesterday, and a child died today,” implying that previous threats or inflammatory comments should not be ignored when unfortunate events later occur.

He further suggested that both former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose and Nyesom Wike should be questioned in relation to the growing political crisis and instability narratives surrounding Oyo State politics.

The remarks come against the backdrop of long-standing political disagreements between Governor Seyi Makinde and the Wike-led G5 political bloc within the PDP. Although Makinde and Wike were once close allies during the internal battles that rocked the PDP before the 2023 general elections, political observers believe cracks have gradually widened between both camps over influence, succession politics, and future presidential calculations.

Governor Seyi Makinde, widely regarded as one of the most influential opposition governors in Nigeria, has continued to attract national attention due to his growing political profile and speculations surrounding a potential presidential ambition. Though the governor has not officially declared any intention to run for president, his increasing national engagements and strategic political alliances have fueled speculation within the political space.

Security challenges in parts of Oyo State have also intensified concerns among residents in recent months, with reports of kidnappings and criminal activities prompting calls for stronger security intervention from both state and federal authorities.

As of the time of filing this report, neither Nyesom Wike nor the DSS has officially responded to Isaac Fayose’s allegations and demands. Political analysts, however, warn that the growing culture of inflammatory political rhetoric could further deepen divisions within the country’s already tense political atmosphere.

Many Nigerians on social media have continued to debate whether Fayose’s comments represent genuine concern over security developments or simply another layer in the ongoing political supremacy battle ahead of the 2027 elections.

With political realignments already quietly taking shape across major parties, observers believe statements such as these may only intensify the power struggle among influential figures positioning themselves for future national relevance.

For now, the controversy surrounding Wike’s alleged “fire in Oyo” statement remains another reminder of how deeply charged Nigeria’s political environment has become as the countdown to 2027 gradually gathers momentum.
