APC Primary Is Over: Why Loyalists Must Rally Behind Senator Sharafadeen Alli Instead of Fighting Online

The emergence of Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli (BSA) as the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship flag bearer for the 2027 Oyo State election has continued to generate widespread reactions among party members, supporters, and political observers. While celebrations have erupted across many quarters, some supporters of unsuccessful aspirants have taken to social media to express disappointment and frustration.

Reacting to the development, Hon. Lanre Jinadu offered a thought-provoking message, urging party faithful to rise above emotions and understand the realities of political leadership and party democracy.

According to him, those who engage in endless online arguments are often individuals who have never truly benefited from or enjoyed any meaningful relationship with the politicians they passionately defend.

He noted that many die-hard supporters spend valuable time attacking perceived political opponents on social media, while the political leaders they claim to be defending are often engaging one another in cordial discussions behind closed doors.

As Hon. Jinadu aptly observed:

"Your principal is somewhere eating, catching fun and holding mature discussions with the same person you have tagged as an enemy. Politics is far bigger than what many followers see from the outside. Be wise enough to look beyond the noise."

Driving home his point with a popular Yoruba proverb, he added:

"Olowo n se ore olowo, talaka ni ko mura si oro ara e."

Loosely translated, the proverb reminds ordinary supporters not to become consumed by political battles while neglecting their own personal growth and welfare.

His concluding remark was simple but powerful:

"All man for himself."

The statement serves as a reminder that political followers should avoid allowing emotions to cloud their judgment or damage relationships over contests that politicians themselves may have already moved beyond.

Hon. Jinadu also reflected on the APC governorship primary ahead of the 2019 Oyo State election, recalling how Chief Adebayo Adelabu unexpectedly emerged as the party's candidate despite widespread expectations at the time. That experience, he argued, demonstrates that internal party contests can produce surprising outcomes, but once a winner emerges, the focus should shift from competition to unity.

With Senator Sharafadeen Alli now officially carrying the APC flag, the party has equally intensified reconciliation efforts, urging all aggrieved members to close ranks and work collectively towards reclaiming Oyo State in the 2027 governorship election. During the official unveiling of Senator Alli as the party's candidate, APC leaders emphasized that unity, discipline, grassroots mobilisation and reconciliation remain critical to the party's electoral success. Senator Alli himself described his emergence as a collective victory for every APC member and appealed to fellow aspirants and their supporters to join hands in building a stronger and more united party ahead of the general election.

In the same spirit, Hon. Jinadu passionately appealed to loyal supporters of every aspirant to put the primary election behind them.

According to him, the contest has ended, and the responsibility before every progressive is now to unite, work together and pursue victory for the collective interest of the APC rather than individual ambitions.

"Our loyalty," he stressed, "must ultimately be to the All Progressives Congress (APC), not to any single personality."

He therefore called on party faithful to embrace wisdom, remain committed to unity and immediately stop every form of unnecessary bickering capable of weakening the party ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

As political history has repeatedly shown, parties that successfully reconcile after competitive primaries often stand a stronger chance during the general election than those divided by lingering internal disputes.

Hon. Lanre Jinadu concluded by congratulating Senator Sharafadeen Alli on his emergence as the APC governorship candidate, expressing optimism that unity and collective commitment would ultimately determine the party's success at the polls.
