The 2018 Accord Party governorship candidate in Osun State, Pastor Pade Okunola, has launched a community-based food support initiative benefiting over 1,000 residents of Modakeke, while declaring that Governor Ademola Adeleke deserves a second term to consolidate ongoing developmental strides across the state.
Pastor Okunola, a son of the late Chief Balogun of Modakeke and Bada of Osogbo Land, Pa John Adeboye Okunola, made the declaration on Saturday during the inauguration of the Pastor Pade Okunola Imole Unit-by-Unit Food Support Initiative held in Modakeke, Ife East Local Government Area of Osun State.
The initiative, which targets vulnerable residents and Accord Party households across the community, saw the distribution of food items to more than 1,000 beneficiaries as part of efforts to complement the state government's social intervention programmes.
Addressing participants, Pastor Okunola said his passion for humanitarian service and human development informed his decision to venture into politics, adding that the developmental projects and people-centred policies of the Adeleke administration inspired him to introduce the grassroots food support programme.
He described the initiative as a practical demonstration of his commitment to improving the welfare of the people while supporting efforts aimed at reducing economic hardship at the community level.
Okunola called on residents of Modakeke and the people of Osun State to turn out en masse for the forthcoming governorship election and vote for Governor Ademola Adeleke's re-election.
He expressed confidence that every valid vote would count and urged voters to participate peacefully without fear or intimidation.
The former governorship candidate also encouraged eligible voters to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and mobilise support for Governor Adeleke's second-term bid.
Speaking with journalists at the event, the Osun State Commissioner for Transportation, Olusesan Oyedele, commended Pastor Okunola for initiating the Imole Unit-by-Unit Food Support Initiative, describing it as a laudable intervention that aligns with the administration's commitment to improving the welfare of citizens.
Oyedele appealed to residents of Modakeke and the wider electorate in Osun State to support Governor Adeleke's re-election, saying the governor had demonstrated his commitment to delivering the dividends of democracy through infrastructure development and people-oriented policies.
Some beneficiaries, who received food items during the exercise, expressed gratitude to Pastor Okunola for the timely intervention, describing the initiative as a welcome relief amid prevailing economic challenges. They also pledged their support for Governor Adeleke's second-term ambition.
The highpoint of the event was the unit-by-unit distribution of food items to beneficiaries across Modakeke, underscoring the grassroots focus of the initiative and its emphasis on community-based welfare support.
