Parallel Primary or Political Comedy? APM Ward 09 Rejects Alleged 'Consensus' Candidate, Demands Due Process.

DISCLAIMER: APM ONA-ARA WARD 09 DISTANCES ITSELF FROM ALLEGED PARALLEL COUNCILLORSHIP PRIMARY

The attention of concerned stakeholders and loyal members of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Ona-Ara Ward 09, has been drawn to a publication announcing the purported emergence of Hon. Adewale Matthew Ayodeji as a "consensus" councillorship candidate.

For the avoidance of doubt, we wish to state that the exercise referred to in the publication did not constitute the officially recognised councillorship primary of the party for Ward 09.

Our position is based on the following observations:

- The venue where the purported exercise was held was not the approved venue designated for the party's primary process.
- The constitutionally recognised ward party executives—including the Ward Chairman, Woman Leader, Youth Leader, Secretary, and other authorised ward officers responsible for supervising and ratifying party activities—were not present. The photographs circulated from the event clearly show the absence of these statutory ward executives.
- The participation or endorsement of elders and stakeholders, while respected, does not replace or override the statutory role of duly constituted ward executives in conducting or validating a ward primary.
- Furthermore, under the Electoral Act (as amended), a political party cannot validly adopt a consensus candidate unless every duly cleared aspirant gives written consent to such consensus. In the absence of the required written consent from all aspirants, any claim of consensus remains open to legal and procedural challenge.

Members of the public and party faithful are therefore advised to disregard any publication presenting the said exercise as the official APM Ward 09 primary or as the valid nomination process of the party.

The authentic party process will only be recognised when conducted in accordance with the Electoral Act (as amended), the constitution and guidelines of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), and under the supervision of the duly authorised ward party executives.

Accordingly, any parallel exercise or purported declaration made outside the recognised party procedure should not be mistaken for the official position of the party.

We reaffirm our commitment to internal democracy, due process, and the rule of law, and urge all party members to remain peaceful while awaiting the outcome of the legitimate party process.

Signed:

Concerned APM Ward 09 Stakeholders
Ona-Ara Local Government, Oyo State
