Celebrity entertainment in Nigeria has taken another dramatic turn, as female celebrities have now joined the growing trend of celebrity boxing matches.
Reality TV star and former Big Brother Naija winner Phyna, whose real name is Josephina Otabor, has defeated Nollywood actress Nkechi Blessing Sunday by knockout in a highly anticipated celebrity boxing bout in Lagos.
The fight took place on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at Balmoral Hall, Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, as part of Balmoral Promotions’ “Chaos in the Ring” event. The contest was billed as a four-round celebrity boxing fight and was reportedly the first female celebrity boxing bout organised under the Balmoral series.
Phyna eventually secured the victory in the fourth round, flooring Nkechi Blessing and bringing the contest to an emphatic end. Her victory made her the first female celebrity winner in the “Chaos in the Ring” series, according to reports from the event.
The fight was the latest development in a public back-and-forth between the two entertainers. Their rivalry had generated considerable attention online before eventually moving from social media exchanges into the boxing ring. The tension also reportedly spilled into their pre-fight press conference, adding further drama to an already heavily promoted encounter.
₦50 Million Reward for Phyna
Following her victory, Phyna was presented with a ₦50 million prize. Reports also state that she received an electric vehicle as part of the rewards associated with the victory.
The substantial financial reward adds another interesting dimension to Nigeria's rapidly expanding celebrity boxing scene, where entertainment personalities are turning public rivalries, social-media confrontations and celebrity status into headline-grabbing sporting spectacles.
Phyna also suggested that the boxing victory could be more than a one-off entertainment appearance. After defeating Nkechi, she expressed interest in pursuing boxing further and immediately called out Nollywood actress Etinosa Idemudia, who was present at ringside.
Etinosa accepted the challenge, meaning the drama surrounding the female celebrity boxing category could continue beyond the Phyna-Nkechi encounter.
The female bout was only one of several major attractions at “Chaos in the Ring.” Skit maker Carter Efe also defeated rapper Speed Darlington in their four-round celebrity contest, while Ghanaian boxer Seth “Freezy Macbones” Gyimah defeated Nigeria's Godday “Zodsolo” Appah to claim the WBO African Light Heavyweight Continental Championship.
The event was broadcast on SuperSport and DAZN, further demonstrating the growing commercial and entertainment appeal of crossover boxing events involving Nigerian celebrities.
What began as another celebrity rivalry has therefore produced one of the most talked-about entertainment moments of the Independence Day period—with Phyna emerging from the ring as the winner, ₦50 million richer, and already looking toward her next potential opponent.
