The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Taskforce has arrested 277 individuals during a week-long operation targeting notorious criminal hotspots across the state. The raids, led by Taskforce Chairman CSP Adetayo Akerele, were conducted in response to intelligence reports and public complaints about illegal activities in areas such as Aminkanle Market, NerdC Street near the African Shrine in Agidigbi, and various locations in Ikeja.
The operations, which commenced daily around 1:30 a.m., focused on dismantling makeshift structures used for illicit drug peddling, unauthorized street trading, and other criminal activities. Seized items included substances like Colorado, codeine, and Indian hemp. The Taskforce emphasized that these activities not only violate environmental laws but also pose significant risks to public safety and contribute to traffic congestion.
CSP Akerele stated that the raids are part of an ongoing effort to restore order and ensure the safety of Lagos residents. He urged the public to report suspicious activities through the agency’s feedback channels, reinforcing the government's commitment to maintaining law and order across the state.
