“I Am Ready to Vice Seyi Makinde in 2027”—Bala Mohammed Declares Support Amid PDP’s Strategic Planning

In a move that has captured national attention, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State declared on August 28, 2025, that he is prepared to serve as vice-presidential candidate to Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State—if the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) embraces such a ticket for the 2027 elections.

1. Context & Background
During an interview on Channels Television's Politics Today, Governor Bala Mohammed, also serving as chairman of the PDP Governors' Forum, emphasized lessons learned from the party’s 2023 defeat and subsequent commitment toward ensuring unity, fairness, and strategic equity in the 2027 presidential election process .

2. Readiness to Serve as Running Mate
Mohammed made it clear that personal ambition would not hinder broader party interests. He stated:

> “If the party and our presidential candidate from the South choose me, I am ready. If not, I will support whoever emerges.”

He also underscored that no formal discussions regarding a Makinde–Mohammed partnership had taken place, but he did not dismiss the possibility:

> “If the party decides so, I am ready… What matters is presenting a credible candidate who can defeat President Bola Tinubu in 2027.”

3. Advocating Inclusive Representation
Mohammed criticized the Muslim–Muslim ticket of 2023 by the APC, viewing it as lacking in national inclusivity. He emphasized PDP’s intent to present a Christian South–Muslim North ticket, a combination he said would better reflect Nigeria’s diversity .

4. Potential Synergy of a Makinde–Mohammed Ticket
In remarks to Daily Post Nigeria, he described a potential Makinde–Mohammed ticket as an excellent pairing, saying “Makinde, myself will be [a] perfect match” and capable of matching or even surpassing the current administration’s appeal .

5. A Broader Presidential Landscape
Mohammed noted that the PDP is also exploring other presidential options—including prominent figures like former President Goodluck Jonathan and Peter Obi—and said he has personally reached out to them. He reiterated that he would step aside if they choose to run .
