Viral “Donald Trump” Buffalo in Bangladesh Set for Ileya Slaughter Despite Global Attention
A rare albino buffalo in Bangladesh nicknamed “Donald Trump” has become one of the most talked-about animals on social media ahead of this year’s Eid al-Adha, popularly known as Ileya in Nigeria. The animal gained international attention because of its unusual appearance, especially the blond hair covering its forehead, which many online users say closely resembles the hairstyle of former United States President Donald Trump.
The buffalo, reportedly weighing nearly 700 kilograms, is being raised at a farm in Narayanganj, near Dhaka, Bangladesh. Photos and videos of the animal quickly went viral across Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and international media platforms, attracting reactions from people across different countries. Many visitors reportedly traveled long distances just to take selfies and videos with the animal because of its rare appearance and celebrity-inspired nickname.
According to reports, the buffalo’s owner, Ziauddin Mridha, explained that the nickname originated as a joke from his younger brother after noticing the animal’s distinctive blond hair pattern. Despite its intimidating size, the owner described the buffalo as calm and gentle in nature, noting that albino buffaloes are generally less aggressive unless provoked.
The animal’s cream-colored body, pinkish nose, and flowing golden hair have made it stand out among thousands of livestock prepared for Eid al-Adha celebrations in Bangladesh. Albino buffaloes are considered extremely rare in South Asia, where darker-skinned buffalo breeds are far more common. This uniqueness contributed heavily to the animal becoming a viral sensation online.
International media organizations including Reuters, The Telegraph, NDTV, and several Asian and European news outlets have covered the story extensively. Social media users have continued to debate whether the resemblance to Trump is genuinely striking or simply internet humor amplified by viral trends.
However, despite the global attention and growing popularity, reports indicate that the buffalo has already been sold and is expected to be slaughtered during the Eid al-Adha festivities. The development has generated mixed reactions online, with some people expressing sadness that such a rare animal will not be preserved, while others argue that the sacrifice aligns with religious traditions associated with the annual Islamic celebration.
Eid al-Adha is one of the most significant religious festivals observed by Muslims worldwide. The celebration commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son in obedience to God before receiving divine intervention. During the festival, Muslims traditionally sacrifice animals such as cows, sheep, goats, and buffaloes, with the meat often shared among family members, neighbors, and the less privileged.
In recent years, Bangladesh has witnessed a growing trend where unusually large, rare, or uniquely styled animals become internet sensations ahead of Eid celebrations. Many of these animals are given celebrity-inspired names to attract buyers and visitors to farms and cattle markets. The “Donald Trump” buffalo has now joined the list of viral Eid animals that captured both local and international attention before the festive season.
The buffalo’s story has also sparked humorous conversations online, with memes and edited videos circulating across social media platforms. Some users described the animal as the “commander-in-beef,” while others joked that the buffalo had become more famous online than many celebrities.
