As the world commemorates International Albinism Awareness Day 2026, House of Representatives aspirant for the Ibadan North-West/Ibadan South-West Federal Constituency, Hon. Oluwatobi John Ogunbayo (OJO), has extended his heartfelt greetings and solidarity to persons living with albinism, while reaffirming his commitment to building a constituency where every citizen is valued, protected, and empowered regardless of physical appearance, social status, gender, religion, or disability.
International Albinism Awareness Day, observed annually on June 13, serves as a global platform to promote awareness, dignity, equal rights, inclusion, and protection for people living with albinism. It also highlights the need to eliminate discrimination, stereotypes, and barriers that hinder their full participation in society.
In his message marking the occasion, Hon. Ogunbayo emphasized that true leadership is measured not by the number of promises made but by the extent to which every segment of society is represented and carried along in governance.
According to him, a progressive and prosperous constituency can only be achieved when governance intentionally prioritizes vulnerable groups, persons with disabilities, senior citizens, women, youths, and other special-interest communities whose voices are often underrepresented in public policy discussions.
"We must build a constituency where nobody is left behind. Every citizen deserves equal opportunities, respect, protection, and access to government support regardless of their physical condition or background. Persons living with albinism are an important part of our society, and their rights, welfare, and aspirations must be protected at all times."
The aspirant noted that one of the key pillars of his people-centered legislative agenda is the promotion of social inclusion and equitable representation. He stressed that the future of Ibadan North-West/Ibadan South-West Federal Constituency must be founded on policies that accommodate all citizens and ensure that no individual experiences exclusion due to disability, health condition, ethnicity, religion, or socioeconomic status.
Hon. Ogunbayo further pledged that if entrusted with the mandate to represent the people at the National Assembly, he would advocate for stronger legislation, increased awareness programs, and sustainable empowerment initiatives that advance the interests of persons living with albinism and other vulnerable groups.
He added that his vision for the constituency extends beyond infrastructural development to include human capital development, social welfare, educational opportunities, healthcare access, youth empowerment, and community-based interventions that improve the quality of life for all residents.
"As a representative of the people, my responsibility will be to ensure that every constituent has a seat at the table. We will not discriminate. We will not marginalize. We will not abandon our special citizens. Rather, we will work together to create a constituency where diversity is celebrated and every individual can thrive."
The aspirant also called on community leaders, civil society organizations, religious institutions, educational establishments, and government agencies to intensify efforts aimed at promoting awareness and ending all forms of stigma against persons living with albinism.
As the race toward the next electoral cycle gathers momentum, Hon. Oluwatobi John Ogunbayo (OJO) continues to position himself as a compassionate, visionary, and grassroots-oriented leader committed to inclusive representation, responsive legislation, and sustainable development for the people of Ibadan North-West and Ibadan South-West Federal Constituency.
On this year's International Albinism Awareness Day, he joins millions across Nigeria and the world in celebrating the resilience, contributions, and achievements of persons living with albinism while renewing his promise to champion a constituency built on fairness, equality, opportunity, and justice for all.
Happy International Albinism Awareness Day.
