Senator Sharafadeen Alli Denounces Alleged Link to Kidnapping Case, Describes Report as Malicious Political Smear

The Media Office of Senator (Dr.) Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli has strongly refuted reports circulating on social media that attempt to connect the lawmaker to the recent abduction of Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, a sister of former Minister of Power and prominent Oyo State politician, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, and her twin sons.

In a statement issued by the senator’s media team, the publication was described as false, malicious, politically motivated, and entirely lacking in credibility. The office maintained that there is no basis whatsoever for linking Senator Alli to the unfortunate incident and condemned what it called a deliberate attempt to tarnish the reputation of a respected public servant.

According to the statement, Senator Alli remains a serving Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, a distinguished legal practitioner, and an Ibadan High Chief whose record of public service, leadership, and commitment to peace spans several decades. The media office argued that it is both illogical and unfair for anyone to seek to associate the senator with criminal allegations based solely on unverified claims reportedly made by an individual currently under investigation.

The statement emphasized that Senator Alli has absolutely no connection with the kidnapping incident, the suspects involved, or any activity related to kidnapping, violence, or other criminal acts. It further stressed that attempts to draw conclusions from the alleged discovery of campaign materials or political stickers amount to speculation and should not be treated as evidence of wrongdoing.

The media office alleged that the narrative being circulated bears the hallmarks of a coordinated political attack designed to damage the image of a leader whose influence and popularity continue to grow across Oyo State. It noted that political rivalry should never be allowed to degenerate into the spread of falsehoods capable of misleading the public and undermining confidence in democratic institutions.

Particularly concerning, according to the statement, is the fact that reports being circulated reportedly acknowledge that no security agency has established any direct link between Senator Alli and the alleged crime. The media office therefore questioned the motives of those promoting the claims and accused certain individuals of attempting to weaponize unverified information for political purposes.

The statement further reiterated Senator Alli’s longstanding opposition to criminality in all its forms. As a legislator and advocate of the rule of law, the senator has consistently supported initiatives aimed at improving security, protecting lives and property, and strengthening law enforcement efforts across Oyo State and Nigeria.

Kidnapping remains one of the major security challenges confronting several parts of the country, with federal and state authorities continuing efforts to curb the menace through intelligence gathering, law enforcement operations, and community engagement. Against this backdrop, the media office warned against the spread of misinformation that could distract security agencies from ongoing investigations or create unnecessary political tension.

The public was urged to disregard the publication in its entirety and to exercise caution before sharing unverified information, particularly on social media platforms where false narratives can spread rapidly and cause significant reputational damage.

In addition, the statement called on relevant security agencies to investigate the origin of the alleged misinformation and ensure that individuals responsible for disseminating fake news, political blackmail, or defamatory content are held accountable in accordance with the law.

Despite the controversy, the media office stated that Senator Alli remains focused on his legislative responsibilities and unwavering in his commitment to serving the people of Oyo State. It added that the senator remains dedicated to advancing policies and initiatives aimed at promoting peace, security, economic development, and unity across the state.

The statement concluded by reaffirming Senator Alli’s commitment to the rule of law and democratic values, while expressing confidence that the truth would ultimately prevail over misinformation and politically motivated attacks.

Media Office of Senator (Dr.) Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli
