Aiyedatiwa's Remark on Oyo Insecurity Sparks Debate as Governor Defends Makinde's Security Efforts
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has drawn attention across the South-West following his comments on the recent wave of insecurity and abductions in parts of Oyo State, particularly in the Oriire Local Government area.
Speaking on the security challenges confronting states in the region, the Ondo State governor urged Nigerians to avoid rushing to conclusions whenever isolated security incidents occur, noting that such events should not automatically be interpreted as evidence that a state government has abandoned its responsibility to protect lives and property.
According to Aiyedatiwa, the recent kidnappings and attacks in Oyo State do not suggest that Governor Seyi Makinde has failed in his efforts to strengthen security across the state.
«"The Oyo abductions do not mean Seyi Makinde has not been working in terms of security. I spoke with him on the phone a few days ago, and he said he has lost over 200 Amotekun personnel. It was not in the news because they are actively engaging," Aiyedatiwa stated.»
His remarks come at a time when concerns have continued to grow over security breaches along some forest corridors and rural communities within Oyo State, particularly areas bordering neighboring states and sections linked to the Old Oyo National Park axis.
The Ondo governor further emphasized that many security operations carried out by state-backed security outfits often go unnoticed by the public because successful intelligence missions and counter-crime operations are rarely publicized.
To support his argument, Aiyedatiwa referenced a security incident in Ondo State where authorities reportedly foiled a planned attack on a government facility through coordinated intelligence gathering and rapid intervention by security agencies.
